Have you noticed those dirty stains on
your roof? Wondered how they got there, and if you can get rid of
them without replacing your roof? Well the answer is here! The algae
and moss you see growing on your roof tends to grow on the
Northern sides of the roof. This is because it gets less sun and results
in longer periods of moisture. The dark colored stains you see are
an algae called Gloeocapsa
Magma. It is feeding off of limestone, which is used as filler in newer
shingles. Paper was used previously, hence why your old shingles
didn't get it. Moss also loosens the granules and can cause
premature shingle failure, so an ounce of prevention here is worth a
pound of cure. If you are considering a new roof, ask us about the
algae resistant shingles.
We offer a solution and a prohibitor to
this problem. Certainteed, the leading shingle and siding
manfacturer, recommends the product we use. For a free estimate, call us
