So it’s time for a roof replacement. You have chosen your contractor and your roofing shingles and you’re ready to go. But now it’s time for the actual replacement – and even though you have already hired the best roofing company in Maryland, RoofPRO, LLC – you may still have questions. What is involved in the roof replacement process? What, if anything, do we need from you? We’re offering some answers to help us both and make your roof replacement experience pleasant.
The first question you may be asking yourself is, “How can I prepare my house for the roof installation?” Honestly, the best thing you can do, if possible, is to stick around! You’re making a big investment, and the best way we can guarantee you are happy with the work is to make you a part of the process. If you’re around to occasionally check in or ask questions, we will both know you’re getting exactly what you want. You are also more than welcome to take pictures of the roof replacement to share with friends and family! It’s also incredibly important that you make a plan for your pets during the construction. Without a doubt, from the removal of the old material to the constant nailing of the new, a roof replacement project involves a lot of noise. This will undoubtedly cause stress on your animal. The fact that your house is essentially becoming a construction site (with materials, dirt, and nails) means letting your animals outside or taking them for a walk can also prove difficult.
To prepare your lawn for a roof replacement, we recommend you cut the grass the day before the installation. This allows our crew to easily clean up our materials without losing anything in your yard. You may also want to move lawn furniture, ornaments, or lights out of the way temporarily for their protection. If you have a fenced in yard, please be sure that is unlocked and accessible to our crew. Although we will keep materials on the actual roof as much as possible, we will most likely end up using your driveway as a space to unload new materials, so plan accordingly and park your car on the street if you will need to get out. Keep in mind, however, that we will park our dump truck close to your home to easily dispose of the old roofing materials.
Meet the Roofers
Once the crew arrives, introduce yourself to the head contractor and other roofers. We want to set your mind at ease by opening up the lines of communication early. This is the best way to be on the same page. Ask questions before the big work begins. We will work to protect your lawn by setting up large tarps before laying down any materials. If you feel like you would prefer extra protection, let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Just know that even if your home looks a little messy, it’s all for the greater good!
During the replacement, we begin by inspecting everything under your existing roof. We’ll fix any damage and cover your roof with an underlayment. We’ll also install a drip edge to help prevent water from running off of the shingles and returning back into your house. We then apply something called “starter shingles” for waterproofing, and then your chosen shingles. Finally, we will install flashing and ventilation.
Enjoy Your New Roof!
Once we have completed your roof, we’ll clean everything up, walk around the job with you, and allow you the chance to ask questions. All that’s left next is for you to enjoy! If you are ready for a new roof, contact RoofPRO, LLC by filling out our online form or calling us at 410-428-6806.
