Hurricane season in Maryland began June 1. Now is not the time to put off any needed roofing repairs. The Baltimore and Washington areas could see storm activity across the North Atlantic, with average predictions for the area. It is estimated that we may have around 14 named storms in 2019. If you notice leaking at any time, it is important to have a plan in place to avoid further damage.
At RoofPro, we recommend these three steps in order to save your property from catastrophic leak damage.
1. Emergency Tarping
If you’re hunkered down in your home during a storm, the last thing you want to see is water damage from the inside. Maybe you can see an active leak or even increased moisture around windows. These are signs that there is a leak present. Emergency tarping could save your home in these situations. You could try to install a DIY emergency tarp to your roof, but this practice is dangerous and may not be adequate to control the leak.
At RoofPro, we offer emergency tarping services on the spot when you notice the first signs of a leak. We have all of the tools and tarping you need to protect your home. With a call to our office, a team will be deployed to place the tarp and give you a damage assessment right away.
2. Make Repairs ASAP
If you’ve noticed leaks or condensation near the most common leak prone areas of a home (such as the attic, roof, and under your roofing material) or on the ground around the home, it is important to take care of them right away. Waiting to repair a leak will only cause more extensive and costly damage. Leaks may not always be obvious, though, and a professional roofer should be called in to make the correct determination. If you see signs of a leak, such as water stains and spots or dripping, call a certified roofing company immediately. With the right help, you can save your home and property.
3. Annual Inspections
Another step to prevent leaks from faulty installation or from missing and damaged roofing materials is to schedule an annual inspection. Inspections should take place regardless of whether or not you think there is a leak. Damage can occur over time and may not be obvious to the untrained eye. If you have failed to complete annual inspections and notice leaks, give us a call. We provide repair inspections for situations like this, as well as report inspections and roof certification inspections. We offer these services in order to mitigate any emergency situations that may arise from roofing neglect. If you’re unsure of the type of inspection you need, our customer service team can help.
