Roofing Installation: The Professional Process

Roofing Installation

Roofs come in various materials and shapes, but they all serve a vital role in protecting a home from environmental damage such as rain, wind, and sunlight. Well-maintained roofs also enhance a home’s appearance. Therefore, it’s important to have old or damaged roofs replaced. Professional roof installation is necessary for ensuring a home’s safety, insulation, and curb appeal. At RoofPRO, we follow a meticulous roofing process and use quality materials so your new roof will last for many years to come. Here’s how we get it done.

  1. Remove Old Roof

This step, of course, only applies to existing homes with old roofs. Before a new roof can be installed, the old one must go. Simply adding layers of roofing to the previous one will lead to problems down the road. Our contractors will strip away everything until they reach the underlying sheathing.

  1. Inspection

Depending on the condition of said sheathing, some additional prep work may need to be done to ensure the stability of the roof. If we notice deterioration such as mold or rot, these areas must be replaced to reinforce the structure. Once this step is complete, the new roofing process can begin.

  1. Lay Down Preventative Materials and Underlayment

A strong roof features several layers, each layer serving a specific purpose for protecting the roof and home from environmental damage. Just as we bundle up during heavy rain or snowfall, these layers keep moisture away from the home all year round. Underlayment also helps shingles adhere to the surface. While some may argue that this step is unnecessary, our roofing contractors see it as an important precautionary measure, especially for homes in areas that experience snow and rain regularly.

  1. Install Shingles (Or Other Material)

Asphalt shingles remain the most common and cost-effective roofing material available. We start by laying down a row of shingles at the base of the roof, then work our way up, staggering the shingles each time we move up a row. This offsetting is done to prevent water from leaking through cracks between shingles. When moisture falls through, it will land on the shingle below it until it eventually falls away from the home. This process takes some time, but it’s made much faster with the help of a power nailer.

Of course, other roofing materials exist, such as stucco, metal, clay, slate, and more. Each type has its advantages, unique properties, and methods of installation.

  1. Final Evaluation and Cleanup

When all the shingles are in place, there are still some loose ends to tie up. Our certified roof inspector will carefully examine every inch of the roof for quality assurance. This is where ventilation, insulation, waterproofing, and proper nailing and spacing are all thoroughly evaluated. And then, if everything is completed to perfection, our contractors will sweep the area both on the roof and on the ground for fallen materials and scraps left over from the job.
